Social justice is at the core of our faith. Our congregation is called to make a positive difference not only in our community but in our wider communities. We work to serve, to raise awareness, and to support and partner with people who face injustice. We advocate, organize, and act for justice to live out the values of our faith.

We are guided by the passions of our members and friends as well as powerful resources from the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). These UUA resources inform us, inspire, and serve as calls to action. They include UUA Common Read , Congregational Study/Action Issues (CSAIs) and Actions of Immediate Witness (AIWs) , and UU The VOTE . When we take action, we are in partnership with Unitarian Universalists all over the United States.

Our Side With Love campaign harnesses the power of love to end oppression. UU the Vote supports congregations and UU organizations in activating thousands of Unitarian Universalists to mobilize for electoral justice at the local, state, and national levels.

The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization advancing human rights together with an international community of grassroots partners and advocates.  Our Love Resists campaign – a joint effort with the UUA – activates people of faith and conscience to resist the harm inflicted by criminalization, build solidarity, and create a safer and more just world.  The UUSC also takes action to defend Black lives and dismantle White Supremacy.  When we take action, we are in partnership with Unitarian Universalists all over the United States.

Locally, Social Justice activities  are an important component of our commitment to promoting a more just and inclusive community in the Kearney area   Social Action initiatives of the Kearney UU Fellowship include:

Supporting organizations that combat food insecurity, including the UNK  Loper Pantry, and the Kearney Center Food and Hygiene Pantry, and the Kearney Area Concerned Citizens that sponsors the Annual Thanksgiving Holiday free meals program.

Letter writing to State Legislators advocating for or in opposition to bills impacting such things as the rights of minorities, reproductive choice and ballot access.

Purchasing Christmas gifts for Veterans with little or no family support at a local nursing home.

Our members have taken an active role in environmental causes, including advocating for conservation and preservation of our water resources for safe access  by humans and wildlife.

In the past we took a turn annually in providing the Thursday night meal at the Jubilee Center.   The Kearney UU Fellowship also assumed a facilitating role in the first Senior Living Fair, that became an annual event in the community.
